Christmas Present to Myself....
I haven't bought anything "huge" in awhile (makeup doesn't count! LOL), so I wanted a new digital camera and chose the CANON SD750. I have the CANON SD450 which still works, good condition, and I have had it for years...and as much as I didn't NEED a new one, I WANTED a new one haha. So I ended up passing off the old one to my sister (at least it's still in the family!)
I already have some pros and cons with each camera, but I know it's just a matter of getting used to the new features, settings, etc. My OLD camera took awesome eye shots in AUTO (and macro) with a decent amount of light in respect to not washing so much of the color out (yet at times it did), the NEW camera just has too much flash on the AUTO setting it washes out ALL the color of the subject, so I finally figured I have to use the MANUAL setting and change the flash exposure to a few notches below normal and it works BETTER than the OLD camera in that setting, but it's just a hassle having to switch the setting each time. With my OLD camera, I didn't have to touch any of the settings, put it on AUTO and macro and it was good to go....with the new one it DOES take better eye pictures however you have to fiddle with it EACH time for a close up eye shot, both eyes, the face, the body, etc. Blah...I guess i'll get used to it. I do love how it has finger scroll!
Makeup News:
I saw this at Target yesterday and bought it because it intrigued me- Maybelline liquid mineral foundation.
The ingredients were covered until you took out the safety seal and I was worried it would have talc and bismuth (which is a no no for your skin), and to my surprise it didn't! So I felt more at ease trying it out. (I have a FOTD where I used it this morning that I will later post). It gave me more of a nice clean airbrushed look, I dabbed this all over my face for a little coverage to even out my skin, and then applied my mineral POWDER foundation over it like usual and it was nice and flawless, sorta like a 'back-up' to the powder foundation.
I also picked me up some more Sonia Kushuk brushes because I just love her brushes, and it's so affordable! I bought another blending brush (can't have too many!), and a large angled eyeshadow brush for better e/s application when it comes to contouring the eye (outer-V).
I bought that Sonia Kushuk blending Brush last week and I love it.
ReplyDeleteHey Vanessa!
ReplyDeleteI am a photographer also. I have passive SLR's, and medium formats -Mamiya, A Hassleblad so I badly wanted a compact. I bought a cheapy samsung on for £100, then a Nikon one with Wi-fi - very fancy but to be honest I think I my cheapy one did a better job in terms of focusing. I hate cameras that take more than one second to focus! I hate it cos then the moments gone, ya know!
Hope u settle into ur camera!
x
Stop. It. I. need. All. Of. it.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I will never use it but how CUTE! I need to bribe someone or make a Japanese friend, quick!
liquid mineral make up? That is a new one, I think i'll go check it out, plz post a FOTD with it....hee hee :)
ReplyDeleteawww im jealous!! lol i need to buy a christmas present for myself aswell! lol
ReplyDeletei've heard good things about the sd750. a lot of people are choosing that model over some of the newer ones out. i am between that and the sd850.
ReplyDeletei completely empathize with you on having to change the camera settings for certain pictures. it's such a drag sometimes.
i bought that camera a few months ago! you will loveeeeeee it! its so fast and i just recently discovered this thing called color accent on it.. i play around with it all the time! its when you pick a color and thats all it shows and everything else is black and white.. if you already knew that you can just excuse my newbieness lol. anyways.. you're the coolest i love your blog!
ReplyDeletehey! you have the same camera as me now!!! :] hehe. thank you for sharing that tip about the eyeshadows, i have to try that now! niceee toy!
ReplyDeleteYaye for gifts to yourself! haha. Ooh can you take a picture of yourself wearing the Maybelline's mineral foundation? I love Sonia's brushes too! They are a great deal, but Imma give Everday Minerals' brushes a try too. Have a good weekend!! =)
ReplyDeleteI have the SD750 and I love it! But I'm STILL trying to figure out how to take good closeup pictures of make up with it. Let's swap notes when you have a chance, but I LOVED the closeup pictures you had with your old camera :)
ReplyDeleteHi vanessa! I've been a fan of yours but just havent commented until now...
ReplyDeleteOMG YOU STOLE MY CAMERA!! kidding! I have the same one. I wish I got the sd1000 because I hear it is similar and it got great reviews! But i was a sucker for the sd750 sleek curves and THREE INCH SCREEN! ahh. I wish it had a battery meter because that just tells you when it is about to die and a viewfinder because I cannot see anything when I bring it to the beach.
How this camera take better pictures than tha one you have? Your pics are amazing, are you using a light cube?
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year
the bf got me the same one for christmas except i have the one with the black rim on the lens. love it soo far. only annoying thing is the lcd smudges easily :( so i have to keep wiping it.
ReplyDeleteyou can also try to set the ISO on high instead of auto and then macro. that's how i've played around with it so far.
Heyy.. first of all I have to thank you for answering my question (MAC 180 brush) so quickly, I forgot to thank you! I ordered 180 the other day, I'm still waiting for it to arrive :( I have that same camera!! And I bought it for myself as well! ahaha.. that's so funny :) giving to yourself is awesome :D
ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa, I'm one of the newer readers to your blog (which I came across through Stephie's because she mentioned you a lot so I knew your page would be worth visiting) and just wanted to leave my very first comment on your page letting you know that I find your reviews, FOTD's and all that good stuff helpful! I've actually been thinking about purchasing some Milani shadows and I know they have that line at CVS but I haven't been able to find any of their single shadows there so I was wondering if you had purchased yours online or in an actual store. I hope you've been enjoying the holidays, take care! =]
ReplyDeletehey! i look at your page everyday to see what great tips you have.. i just started my own blog to share tips/special finds, too! =)
ReplyDeleteYay! Hope you have figure out the kinks in the new camera. It looks like a fab one. I love me some Sonia K brushes. So fab!
ReplyDeletei think i had an SD 550 in champagne before it got stolen T-T I believe that was 7.1 mps, too. i LOVED how every photo was such good quality, but in between, it did shake too easily. has it gotten better since?
ReplyDeletei love S.K. brushes. They apply better than any other cheap brands. I have that pointed blender but don't know what to do with it, lol. What do you use it for?
I love them Sonia Kashuk brushes as well but we can't find them here, so I can only pick them up when I'm in the US :( I'm curious about the mineral liquid foundation!
ReplyDeletecant wait for the review about that!! lovely camera..=]
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!!
ReplyDeleteI have the canon sd750as well and I love the quality but, as others have stated, I'm still trying to get get thE most out of the different settings. So far the pictures look good. Can't wait to see more photos using your new camera.
Hi Vanessa!
ReplyDeleteIf you don't mind, can you list down the ingredients please? I saw this at my CVS and I recognized that the seal hid away the ingredients and i'm glad to know that you mentioned there's no talc or bismuth (because my skin hates both), but I'm also allergic to Sulfates so I wanted to check for that.
Thank you!
stressedbum@hotmail.com (you're probably familiar with that email already because I bother you too much XD i'm sorry ;.;)
Ooh, what a pretty camera. I'm going to reward myself with that camera when I graduate from high school this year, LOL
ReplyDeleteI currently have a Sony cybershot one and a Fujifilm one. They're both good but nothing beats Canon!
Thank you all ladies! Yeah the CANON SD750 seems to be a common camera that everyone finds easy to use! And I just want to say hello to all the new readers! Thanks so much for leaving a comment, I love getting to know all of you!
ReplyDeleteAlice- I buy the milani eyeshadows in several drugstore as well as online.
Alienman- I like to use the blending brush for blending or for applying eyeshadow on the outer-V.
