FOTD: Hell to the SHALE!, Hot Pink Nails & Maybelline Foundation

I remember picking up the MAC eyeshadow in "Shale" at a CCO awhile back and boy is it gorgeous! I did a fotd last weekend, and surprisingly I just wanted something neutral yet sultry at the same time. One thing I loved about this look was how easy it was, took me only 10 minutes! I also paired it with NYX Lipstick in B52 that sis Lynne recommended!

What I used:

Face:

- Camellia Rose Skin Soothing Primer
- MMBB Mineral Foundation in "Medium Beige"

Cheeks:
- Jane Blush in "Blushing Earth"
- Milani Blush in "Luminous"

Eyes:

- MAC Paint Pot in "Painterly" (as base all over the lid)
- MAC "Your Ladyship" Pigment (applied WET/FOILED on lid above lashline and above the crease)
- MAC e/s in "Shale" (plum-brown), on outer-V and contour
- Pure Luxe e/s in "Fantasy" as highlight on brow bone
- Indelible gel eyeliner in "Black Out"
- Lancome Mascara Base
- Covergirl LashBlast Mascara
- NYC Eyebrow Kit

Lips:

- NYX Lipstick in "B52"
- Sephora Lipliner #206
- Avon "Latte" lipgloss

I did my own nails too (natural nails) since I hate acrylics and only get acrylics on "special occasions", but it actually came out a lot better than I thought! Simply because every single time I TRY to do my own nails, I get very impatient and I end up smudging them so they look like my nails were bitten! But this time, I waited for them to completely dry, used a clear top coat (gotta love Sally Hansen), and a nail polish remover pen for any mistakes. I forgot the brand and color of the nailpolish, I have to go have a looksie when I get home.

Also, some of you wanted to see the coverage of the Maybelline Foundation, so here it is sans makeup of course! [don't laugh]....stop laughing! haha, as you can see it provides some pretty good coverage and I didn't even use a lot! And yes I purposely did not get my exact shade (to match my neck)since I put my mineral foundation over it, (don't wanna look TOO dark), so I got a shade lighter in Creamy Natural.

Can you tell I just got out of the shower!???

  3. Fantastic colors on the eyes, and the whole balancing of colors on your entire face. Thanks for sharing.

Oh and how similar you look to your little sister Megan(?)without your make-up on. I guess she will grow up pretty like you!

  5. Love the look sis and B52 is the perfect pair! Like Chris said, it is very versatile! I find myself reaching for it when I want a no-brainer but something that I know will look good. I really like this look. It's sexy yet professional.

And look at you!! All bare faced and still gorgeous! Definitely HOTT! But that foundation does have pretty good coverage on its own!

  7. wow i didn't think much of your ladyship pigment but it looks super gorgeous foiled. i'm wondering how do you foil pigments and still keep the product sanitary? i've heard that i should be picking up colour before wetting the brush but i find i don't get much colour that way.

  10. PS - I LOVE the eye makeup today! I really like more natural eyes since I am sooo unskilled at blending and contouring colors.

Also, did you use the Lancome Cils Booster XL? I love that stuff!

  12. thank you for showing us a picture of the coverage of Maybelline Mineral foundation!

and i love that simple, yet really pretty look with those two basic colors (shale and your ladyship).

btw, for NYX #B52, is that referring to the shade "Peach Love" ? I looked on NYX's website and that's the closest I can get to that number.

    thanks :)

  17. Hey Ness,
Love that simple look showing off the Maybelline foundation. I bought some today so we'll see how it looks. I'm happy they had samples you could try of it at Walgreen's. Then I decided I need to drop by the MAC counter and got a grip of stuff from the N collection( dark edge, nanogold, lightflush, n1 lipgloss, and ladyblush) The gift card went to good use!

I was gonna ask you...when you buy mac eyeshadows do you depot them or keep them in the pots? I want to depot and put them in an eyeshadow palette, but I can't get myself to do it. Not sure why, but I like how they look nicely in the pot. Then I think about man I could so get more free stuff if I'd just depot everything!

  18. Hi Vanessa! I've recently discovered your blog and I love it. I am Filipina, and I love all the makeup tips for Asian eyes! I am pretty clueless about makeup, but trying to be better. That said, I was wondering if you could make OR had a link for a good tutorial on how to apply cream/mousse foundation? Thanks so much and keep on blogging!

  19. Hi, my love! I'm lovin' that FOTD! Beautiful!!! Aaaand, your natural nails look fab. Lovin' the color. So I'm back on the West Coast. What's your schedule look like this weekend? We should do the Pro Store!....not like either one of us need anything but I'd love to go anyway.

Oh....and do you know where I can find Style to Style (or somethin' like that) in the LA area? Hmmm...

  20. Thanks! Girl, we live so close (when I'm back in LA anyway) we should def get together and watch our bank accounts drain someday! lol

  21. wanna do my nails? OMG, i love the color that you used! pink is my ultime favorite color.

& that foundation!! wow, i really thought that was your bare skin. even with only foundation on, you look gorgeous.

  22. I loooove that look! It's so cute!

And I'm just like you, I just simply can't wait for my mail polish to dry and I start doing things and they get all smudgy. Someone should invent a nail polish that dries as soon as you put it on for impatient people like me. lol

  23. Ahh bless you for showing yourself with no make up - Im not brave enough to do that but you look lovely anyway.

What shade did you get by the way? I was thinking of CPing this foundation but someone else mentioned the shades were a bit awkward. I am a NC35, I think you are about the same? :)

  24. Ooh, you reminded me to get Shale! It's such a pretty color, especially on you. :)

  25. Hey Vanessa!

This look is simply gorgeous! Of all the looks you've created so far, I like this one the best. It's so feminine, sophisticated and natural but still has an edge to it! How could I not love it when it has pink (kinda layed-back and smoky) and gold in it, my fav color combination? Wonderful job Nessa! These natural looks you've been creating are beautiful! Keep them coming!

    :-)

  26. Hey,

I'm DEFINITELY going to have to go and grab Shale!! I love plummy shadows..

And a constructive suggestion...Have u thought about letting ur brows grow out a little? I fell victim to what seems like over-plucking a while back and now that I let them thicken up a bit, like tear-drop shape, toward the inside of the eye, they look wayyy better. The way u have urs now is how I had mine before..kind of like a line. A plus to letting them grow is less plucking in the future :). I've been getting compliments ever since from my asian friends.

  27. Awww thanks so much Izar! (I am replying to all you ladies individually on your own blogs soon!)

Tiffany- I actually don't pluck my eyebrows, I just use powder to shade them in. I actually need to get them waxed. But my eyebrows are naturally thin so all I need really is to shade them in.
