Product Review: MAC Lip Erase

Product: 4 out of 5
Packaging: 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5
Price: $16.50

What it does: "A flesh-toned balm that visually neutralizes and erases natural colour from the lip. Shine- and texture-free. Available in a choice of two shades for use on light to medium skin tones."

My take: I have always used a concealer or a cream foundation to neutralize the color of my lips. I do this so that lipsticks appear truer and brighter in color so that the actual color appears, and not the color result of it being mixed with my pink, or sometimes red lips. I wanted to try this because like I said, I have always used a concealer or a cream foundation, obviously now that I use mineral foundation, I don't really have anything to do the job, I can use my concealer but it's TOO thick to be on the lips and makes it look cakey. There isn't much color different between the only two colors they have: Pale and Dim. Pale is really light so I got Dim so I don't look so ghastly.

What I liked about it:
Lip Erase is really for the lips, giving a nice neutral color, and no yellow tinges or yellow undertones found in concealers. It really covered up nice and applying lipstick glided on smoothly! The packaging is nice too, usually when it comes to lips, I hate jars, but because the jar allows you to use your finger or a lip brush and really get in there and get some color, it makes application A LOT easier to apply, and applies it evenly. The pot is HUGE and there is more than enough to last you a long, long time!

What I didn't like about it: First of all, it's ONLY available in MAC PRO stores (www.macpro.com), so you will not find it on the actual MAC website. It's not as creamy as I would like it to be, it's a bit dry in the sense that it takes some swipes to really get a good amount to work with. It can also make your lips feel dry so you may want to put some chapstick before you apply this.

You might like this if: You have naturally pigmented lips such as a dark pink/red and lipsticks don't look the same on your lips as they do on your hand. You might like this to neutralize the color making your lippies much more vibrant and true to color!

You might not like this if:
You already have dry, chapped lips.

Natural Lips (no chapstick, no primer, nothing):

  5. It has toned down Thalia quite a bit. You don't have dry lips at all :)

  6. I've seen this and always wondered how it worked. Thanks for the review!

My lips are quite pigmented so I thought this might help but the dryness puts me off.

  8. There is definitely a difference but I kind of like the ones without the primer better just for daywear though.

  10. I wanted to get this because my lips are so pigmented, but after hearing that it's dry from a few reviews... ehh. It really does make a difference in how the lip color shows up, though. Do you think it increases the staying power of lipstick/gloss?

  11. I was also wondering about the textures of NYX megashine l/g vs. the brush on l/g. Which one is thicker, like lipglass (better staying power)? Thanks a bunch!

I'm bummed... the place that had the biggest NYX selection here stopped carrying it =( Guess I have to go to the puny Ulta one, argh. Anyway, have a great weekend!

    Sorry for the double comment!

  15. wow that stuff really makes a HUGE difference and the lipstick really POPS with colour.

Wishing my lips weren't so dry and flaky, then I'd probably give it a try.

I really like Up the Amp....

  17. i usually use mac's select cover concealer.. the liquid. i'd def have to compare for myself as it's hard to tell the big diff between that kind of concealer and lip erase. GREAT review! thanks!

  23. hi. cool website. very helpful. i read you didnt like how you can only get lip erase in pro stores. i love mac, but for something like this i would recommend lip plump by benefit. check it out, and maybe you can d a comparison / review of some sort. keep it up!

  24. well, shoot! now i REALLY gotta take a cab to the pro store on my lunch hour. i MUST have this stuff. question: do you need to wait for it to dry or anything before applying l/s? or just put the lip erase on and then apply the l/s?

  25. i wish i had access to a pro store :( i wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those lip erasers.

  26. Wow, great review and it really does make a difference in colors!

I probably won't get this since I normally sample lip colors right at the store and get the ones that I think looks good on me. The definite upside to this is that I can get TWO lip colors in one! LOL

Hope you're having a good weekend!

I really need to get a hold of this product now.

  28. Cookie, PRO products are permanent in PRO stores, they don't have LE products other than the normal collections....

  29. Haha EM awww you are so cute, haha I know I think of certain people to when I see things that's just "them", LOL.

Gezebel- Nope! Just apply it and apply your lipstick like normal, no need to wait for it to dry as it's like a cream concealer almost where it goes on but already is dry on your lips...

  31. Hi Anonymous-

The BF and I have our share of arguments and disagreements just like anyone else but we don't fight all the time to be honest. We were friends first, so it definitely helps because we are great friends as well as great lovers...I also am the type of person where I don't like arguing or conflict, so there's not much fighting between us since we communicate a lot and "never go to bed angry".

There are time I am sure where we want to strangle each other, but above all, I know that he really loves me and I really love him, and we always say to each other that we are the only ones who will put up with one another!

  32. Hey Vanessa! How does Lip Erase compare to Benefit's Lip Plumper? I've always wondered how you get so much bang outta your lipglosses and lipsticks! I think it's a great way of making drugstore lippies (which tend to be more sheer than their dept store counterparts) look great! :D

  33. Hi Vanessa, nice blog! Thanks for the MAC Lip Erase review anyway. Love it!

  34. thanks for the bf advice!

  35. i think you look way better without the lipstick on since your lips is pretty pigmented. Please close your lips when taking a picture. Thanks

  36. Anonymous #2: Thanks! As for the lip pics, they ARE pretty much closed, I separate my lips when I do swatches so that people can get an idea of how it looks like when they smile as it helps me when I see swatches rather than have them completely touching....

  37. Thanks for the review! I actually had to order mine over the phone bc the Pro store was sold out since dec!! ... and as for the dryness I used MAC's Prep & Prime for lips first and then the Lip Erase over it ... so it wasn't too dry!!

  38. Thanks everyone! Glad you enjoyed the review and thanks iamgrape!

  40. could you use this under your lipgloss as well?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Aww, your new layout makes it impossible to see the pictures! DX

    ReplyDelete
  42. i have a question, how do you buy the MAC lip erase off the website? i know you can find it at PRO stores but, i'm confused as to where you ordered it off the website. please help me :).

    ReplyDelete
  43. I bought it off the MAC PRO website, you can also get it at the MAC PRO store and you DO NOT have to be a MAC PRO member to buy at the actual store.
