Just a real quick video on how I clean my beauty blender sponge in case any of you are wondering...I used Dr. Bronner's Pure Castille Soap (also from PurelyCosmetics.com) but you can find it at CVS also. I like it better than the cleaner it comes with, I mean you can use whatever you prefer as long as it gets the job done right?!
Someone on YouTube pointed out that I was wasting water, but I don't drink water at all (I hate the taste) if that helps LOL, AND it's rather hard to do a video (hold the camera), hold the sponge, add soap, then turn on the water ALL at the same time...so yeah, me "wasting" water wasn't on purpose, but I only have 2 hands; besides it was a super quick video. :)
Youtube is just full of opinionated people, isn't it? In theory, it can be argued that washing brushes/cosmetic applicators is always wasting water but that doesn't mean that we should breed bacteria farms, does it?
Thanks for the tut. I've avoided buying a Beauty Blender because it seemed like it would be difficult to clean.
Hi! I love your blog and everything you write about...and I'm not trying to be nit-picky. But it's one of those things that really makes me cringe...I think you should turn off the faucet whenever you don't need it to conserve water instead of letting it run like that.
Hi Ruby, I explained my reasons on my post, I did it unconsciously and there are just certain people that do things by habit, I am sure not everything we do is entirely "green" or "eco-friendly" and yet we don't intentionally do it. In short, it was a short video and was done for the mere purpose of the tutorial, I think id rather avoid having my camera fall into the sink. :)

Jeez, you hardly wasted any water! Plus how are you supposed to film it? And I think it's great that you're teaching people how to properly clean their sponges...it means they'll keep reusing them instead of tossing them once they get dirty. That's environmentally-friendly!
I have a pet peeve about water wasting, but I wouldn't lecture someone for it though. It's clear why it happened to you while filming the vid, when filming we end up explaining and tend to forget our surroundings. People in general, not just YouTube tend to just blurt shit out of their asses. I had to disable comments on one of my vids cuz perverted people kept saying sexual comments. Ugh.
Dr Bronner's is great for your brushes as well as sponges. It's inexpensive, you don't need much, and it just sucks makeup out of things. For the naturalists, it's 100% organic. It's quick, easy, and cheap, but more importantly, it cleans better than any other brush cleaner I've used!
This is kind of a weird question, but does the sponge ever go back to its original size? I bought the Sonia Kashuk knock off, and after cleaning it, it retained a lot of water. While it still fits in the container, it definitely expanded a lot. LOL... obviously it's a sponge and that's what sponges do... I was just curious.
The Beauty Blender (don't know if the knockoff works the same or not) doubles in size wet. Squeeze it out, stick it back on it's pedestal to dry - under an hour - & it's back to the same as the day you bought it!
Hello :), i have just got my beauty blender sponge and one of the Dr. Bronner's magic soap (lavender) sent from Australia as both products are not available here in New Zealand. I have herd/it says on the bottle that you are meant to dilute the soap before using it?? Do you know how much it is suppose to be diluted to use to clean a beauty blender sponge?? Hi Siobhan, I'm not Nessa, but I can answer this for you since I sell both products. You do not need to dilute Dr. Bronner's - I use it straight up all the time on both my Beauty Blender and my brushes. It is concentrated, so just a dab will do you. Wet your blender and just add a drop or two where it's dirtiest, rub it in a bit, rewet, and squeeze to lather it up. Then rinse clean.
