Product Review: Revlon ColorStay Active Light Makeup & Red Devil/Coral Polyp FOTD

So as you know, I've been going to the gym lately and of course when you are at the gym- you sweat like a pig. Since I go during my lunch, I often have some makeup on when I go to the gym which of course is all gone after the gym, but I usually put on a bit of makeup for work since we need to be somewhat "presentable" (usually foundation and eyeliner); so I was looking into sweat-proof and rub-proof foundations that I could wear to work AND the gym, and STILL look decent despite the fact I was sweating like crazy!

I read on a few sites that many women recommended Revlon's ColorStay Active Light Makeup because not only does it have SPF25, but gives you light, sweatproof coverage that is breathable and won't rub off after you exercise. What really sold me, was there were MANY reviews from women who have sensitive skin (which is me) that said they did not experience any breakouts or anything of that nature from using it. So I headed to Wal-Mart after work to nab one to truly test it out....

Would I re-purchase? Yes but in another color, buff was a tad bit too light in pictures and in person, so maybe the next shade down which was "Sand Beige" or "Nude", or perhaps by the darker shade and just mix them together...
Other tidbits: It is oil-free, non-pore clogging, non-irritating (according to the package), and unfortunately has parabens.

Today was the first day I have worn it, but so far so good, of course if there happens to be a turn for the worse I will let y'all know, but I can usually "feel" ahead of time if something will work for me or not, and so far this seems to be pretty cool.

So my initial observation with it, was that it's sheer yet gives just the perfect amount of coverage without being heavy. Upon application, I noticed it's not as "runny" as many liquid foundations, but it's not as thick either, so it's sorta thick in the sense that it stays on your face, but not thick to where it looks or even feels cakey. I applied it with my Beauty Blender Sponge for a nice even look and then used a little bit of the finishing powder to set that sis Shen gave me for Christmas from Ellana Minerals. So the first pic is BEFORE the gym, freshly applied (as you can see "Buff" was way too light for me in pictures, but in person it was an okay match to where you can barely tell it was light), and the picture below is after the gym. I also used the "Coral Polyp" lipstick from the Dame Edna Collection and "Red Devil" lipglass from the Brunette, Blonde, and Redhead Collection.

PROS:
- Didn't cause me to be itchy or break out which is usually the case within 10 minutes a product is on my face that my skin is sensitive to
- Has SPF 25
- No weird funky smell like Revlon's older liquid foundations that had a weird smell
- Affordable (especially in this crazy economy!) & Easy to find
- Stayed on pretty well for the majority of the day until I went to the gym
- Had some rub-off protection (I wiped my sweaty face with my towel and didn't notice any transfer of color on my towel)
- Small enough to stash in your purse or makeup bag

CONS:
- After the gym, it didn't look even remotely in tact or as good as it did BEFORE I went to the gym, probably less than half of it was still on my face...as if it just evaporated!

You would like this if: You are just looking for something affordable that will stay on for most of the day, or if you do light workouts and don't sweat a lot and just need something to hold you over.

Overall? It wasn't a bad product for me, since almost all drugstore foundations set my face into an aggravated frenzy! So I was happy in the sense that my skin was liking this baby and on top of that, it gave amazing coverage, didn't have a funky smell, and of course it has SPF 25! That's why I would definitely be open to buying it again, but just in a different shade so it matches better.

AVON & Revlon Haul

Here are the two recent hauls I got: one from Avon, and a couple of the new Revlon Matte Lipsticks I bought from CVS in "Pink Pout" and "Nude". I bought two Glazewear Lip Liners, which are glossy lip liners that glide on in "Sheer Nude" and "Sheer Spice", and their ColorTrend lipliner in "Neutral". I also bought their angled eyeliner brush which is SUPER tiny, fits in the palm of my hand! And their liquid freeze quick dry nailpolish spray.













And here are the Matte Revlon Lippies I got, they are actually really pigmented, and I would say they are close dupes to MAC "angel" or "snob" lipstick and the nude color is a good dupe for MAC's "myth" lipstick.

MAC Makeup Case: New Way to Organize & What to Pack

One thing I love about the dividers that come with most makeup boxes/cases, is that you can organize things the way you want!

Here's another way I organized my MAC case using the dividers that came with it. I organized it into 9 squares and filled it up with some of my essentials: Q-tips, Nail Buffer, to hold my MAC Mixing Medium, moisturizer, MAC Lipglasses, Beauty Blender Sponge, Buffer brush, a nailpolish (to avoid spilling or breaking in transit), and toe separators (as I was planning to give myself a pedicure!).

Many of you aspiring makeup artists wanted to know what are some things I recommend bringing along with you for clients or just essentials for your makeup kit. I like to always be prepared and have travel sizes of everything in my purse, so especially when it comes to makeup, I like to have everything I need. So in ADDITION to the normal things you would have (like eyeshadows, lipsticks, foundation, lipglosses, brushes, etc)...

Here is my list:
- Makeup sponges/wedges(they are disposable so you can toss them out after each client, they are also cheap and great for blending foundation or concealer).
- Q-Tips(great for cleaning up around the eye area, such as mascara or eyeliner smudges, also great as a makeup applicator or smudging the lower lashline).
- Disposable lip brushes, mascara wands, spatulas(you can find these at beauty stores like Sally's, they are great for obvious sanitary purposes to prevent transfer of bacteria from client to client. Spatulas are great for mixing colors on your hand or on a palette such as foundation or concealer. Can also give clients a few for any touch-ups they might need)
- Bobby-Pins & Hair Clips(great for holding hair during makeup application as well as hair styling like updo's)
- Hairspray(in case I forget brow gel, this is great to lightly mist on an eyebrow brush and to comb those eyebrow hairs in place for a quick fix as well as for keeping hair in place for hairstyling!)
- False eyelashes & Eyelash Glue(an absolute staple! really brings out the eyes, and helps the eyes stand out for photoshoots)
- Tiny Baby Scissors(to trim long false eyelashes to conform to a more natural fit or look, as well as trimming eyebrow hairs)
- Eyelash Curler
- Swisspers Cotton Rounds or Ovals(great for removing makeup, applying toner, or removing excess foundation or blush without messing up the entire look)
- Eye & Lip Makeup Remover or wipes such as MAC makeup remover wipes(sometimes clients come with makeup on and you need them to take it off, this gets the job done fast!)
- MAC Fluidline in "Blacktrack"(since this is in a pot, there's no need to worry about an applicator directly touching the eye so definitely great when working with clients for hygienic purposes, also it lasts AWHILE! Simply have spare eyeliner brushes when working on multiple clients, or disinfect in between clients with a brush cleaner and/or alcohol)
- Black Kohl Eyeliner(a staple to line the lower lashline, waterline, or for tightlining)
- Blush Palettes & Eyeshadow Palettes(a space saver, and gives you a variety of choices to use on clients with different skintones, like a peach or coral, a baby pink, etc) I like MAC "Springsheen", "Pink Swoon", "Margin", or "Sunbasque" blushes to compliment any skintone.
- Concealer Palette(great to mix and match to suit all skintones and colors, be sure to have a green and lavender based concealers as well to hide any redness such as rosacea or acne, and purple/lavender to brighten dull or sullen skintones or dark circles)
- Oil Blotting Papers(to get rid of shine on photoshoots and throughout the day)
- Makeup Primer(whichever you prefer, smooths the face and creates a nice canvas before applying foundation for a flawless look)
- Eyebrow Pencils or Powder
- Tissues
- MAC Fix+ Spray(great for setting makeup, a skin/face refresher and can also be used to mix loose pigments if you do not have a mixing medium)
- Mixing Medium(to help loose minerals and pigments adhere to the skin like glitter or mineral makeup)
- Eyeshadow Primer or Bases(UDPP, TFSI, MAC Paint Pots)- Helps eyeshadows last as well as look more vibrant.
- Vaseline & Lotion(great for any dry spots on the face or ashy areas that need a little moisture, helps makeup go on better over these dry spots to prevent flaking)
- Tweezers(for fly away eyebrow hairs or for last minute eyebrow grooming, also great in applying fake eyelashes)
- Lipliners(help define the lips natural shape, can also give the appearance of fuller lips for clients with thin lips)
- Extra makeup brushes(always good to have in between clients, and to save time having to disinfect/sterilize each time)
- Contour Powder(to contour and define facial structures)
- Facial Moisturizer
- Mascara(and of course the normal stuff!)

Hair: Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment

Thanks for all the comments on the last FOTD post! I'll be answering your questions from my C-box later today as it's almost 2am and I still have to wake up early for work in a few hours, but also I know many of you have been leaving comments without a blog so feel free to leave an email or an easier way to contact you. Many of you asked how I did my hair on my last fotd post, and I pretty much just do my hair the same each time. I just take a 1.5 " curling iron (for bigger and looser natural curls) and just curl the bottom part of my hair or just the ends for a little curl and volume. I did a quick video awhile back on how I do it so you can get an idea. There's really no special trick to it and it's easy to do! :)

***And in case you are wondering what curling iron I use, it's the Revlon Perfect Heat series, I also have one that's 1 1/4" barrel. You can find them at a great price at Target or Wal-Mart. Some people don't really like Revlon curling irons, but it honestly works for me, and I've even tried other brands, Helen of Troy and Hot Tools, etc., but this one just works for me and it's cheap!



Another little thing I love because it unfailingly brings my hair back to life as well as adding in any necessary moisture when my hair is thirsty for some; is the Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment. I first introduced Ojon Products a few months ago when I first bought the Ojon Kit from a trade show and I have loved them ever since! They really help maintain the moisture and shine my hair needs, and doesn't dry out my hair like other regular hair products because it doesn't contain any alcohol in it- just natural oils.

The Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment is made out of palm nut oil and I describe it as a soft and paste-like; you scoop a little at a time with the natural spoon it comes with and place it on the palm of your hands and rub it together until the paste melts from the warmth of your hands into the oil and apply it on your hair (dry hair). You then leave it in for as long as you want (like half an hour, or 15 minutes, etc) and then rinse out when you take a shower and shampoo and conditioner as normal (I also use the Ojon Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner). For BETTER RESULTS, I like applying it before I go to bed, then place a shower cap to keep the moisture in (and to not make a mess on your pillow!) and then rinse off in the morning. This does wonders overnight and your hair is soft and shiny!

You can get it at Sephora, QVC.com, as well as other places that offer Ojon Products in addition to other hair brands. They have two sizes: 1.35 oz for $21, and the 5 oz. size for $55.

It smells natural, as in a peanut-type smell due to the natural palm nut oils, may not be a favorite smell to most, but you rinse it off anyway so it doesn't really bother me, given that it actually does the job!

So how does this differ among many deep conditioners? It's natural and contains natural oils that our hair needs. Next time you go to the store and look at the ingredients of regular conditioners, shampoos, like Pantene, etc., you will notice many of them have alcohol in it. And we all know that alcohol dries things out, we use it to press pigments, and alcohol definitely dries out the hair after awhile. Since this is pure palm nut oil, it really treats your hair to a nice and easy conditioning treatment that restores lost moisture and brings your hair back to life.

Eco Tools Brushes-Go Green!

I love Eco Tools, although I DO wish they put more products out there of their line that cater to the makeup market because it's just fabulous! And the best part is that you know you are doing your part in helping preserve the Earth's natural resources because their tools are made by natural material such as bamboo (such as the handles), the ferrule is made by recycled aluminum, and the bristles itself are synthetic man-made taklon bristles.

I have talked about Eco Tools in the past, and I recently bought their 5-piece set which includes 4 makeup brushes: a baby kabuki, a mineral powder brush, a blending eyeshadow brush, and a concealer brush (which could also be good for applying loose pigments wet!), and a pouch made out of natural cotton and hemp.

So you may ask:

Are they soft? How do they compare to other brushes such as MAC?
A: They are REALLY soft! They are not scratchy at all and the best part is that I personally have not experienced any shedding of the bristle hairs when washing these brushes. They are just as good as MAC, I mean MAC brushes, expensive as they are, are not the BEST brushes. They too, shed and get scratchy after awhile. Their face brushes are great, but their eye brushes are not top notch on my list. I use Crown Brushes which are just as great and A LOT cheaper too. But I like how I can take comfort knowing that the Eco Tools are environmentally friendly. :)

How much are they?
A: This set alone was only $10. For the ENTIRE thing. And individual full size brushes are anywhere from like $4.99-$8.99 just to give you an idea of how much they usually run...

Q: What brushes did you use for your most recent FOTD? -Katz

A: Hi Katz, I used:
- MAC #183 buffer brush to apply my mineral foundation
- An angled blush brush from Crown Brush to apply "Springsheen" over the MAC Blushcreme in "Uncommon". For the cream blush I simply dabbed a tiny dot on the apples of my cheeks with my finger, and blended it upwards towards my ear
- Applied "Flip" e/s and "Goldmine" with a sponge tip applicator for a more vivid look, and it also helps me control the color better as well as giving me more pigmented color as oppose to a brush
- Used MAC #226 (pointed tip blending brush) to cut my crease (contour) the brown eyeshadows to deepen my eyes (windshield wiper motion)
- Blended and highlighted with the Sonia Kushuk Blending Brush from Target
- For the Fluidline in "Blacktrack", I used Sonia Kushuk's Angled Eyeliner Brush (aka Bent Eyeliner Brush)
- For the lower lashline, I applied UD's "Zero" eyeliner and smudged it along the lashline with a Q-tip

Q: Do you consider a blending brush a necessity and why? I always used a regular eyeshadow brush to do all the different tasks. I do notice the shape of a blending brush being different from eyeshadow brushes. -Pham

A: I definitely consider it a necessity (at least for me), I can't imagine my life without one! Blending brushes are shaped differently than regular eyeshadow brushes which makes it easier to blend at all angles, even Asian eyes. Most of them are pointed and fluffy, and because of the fluffy bristles, gives a more natural blended look when blending colors without blending TOO much color as I have noticed when I try using a regular eyeshadow brush to blend. It just gives me a more softer look when blending harsh lines; at times when I am scrambling and can't find a blending brush I will use a regular flat eyeshadow brush and it ends up taking off some color so I find myself having to re-apply color and blending it again simply because the bristles on regular eyeshadow brushes are more compact and firm and take off more color then a loose blending brush.

Q: How did you lose weight? Did you work out everyday or go on a diet too? -Stephy

A: Hi Stephy! I work out everyday (at least I try to!) except the weekends because the gym is downstairs from my work so I usually go there during lunch also (which saves me money from buying lunch as well!), I do 15-20 minutes of Cardio on the Elliptical or the bike, I do about 15-20 minutes of abs which is anywhere from crunches, bicycle kicks, side to side, etc., I do 5 minutes on calves (calf machine), a few chest presses and arm presses, and lift 5-10lb. weights.

As far as my diet, I have been eating healthier, I have a bowl of cheerios with low fat milk, and a banana for breakfast, sometimes I will have half of a bagel, or an apple. In between meals, I have fruit like apples or bananas, or fresh cut veggies like carrot sticks, celery or broccoli or slices of cheese with water crackers. For lunch it various, I'll have a plain salad (no croutons, heavy dressing) just cucumbers and a light vinaigrette, sometimes I will have some baked Salmon, or grilled chicken, ham slices or soup. I don't have dinner that often, not on purpose, but just because when I get home I am usually busy taking a shower, blogging, etc so I either forget to have dinner or I am not hungry. I also don't eat after like 7:30pm (just my choice), but if I AM hungry I will have a bowl of cereal or more fruit. On the weekends, or even occasionally I will have the good stuff like chicken strips, pizza, etc, but it's about moderation. So I will have a slice or two of pizza, and then have a salad, or have a light lunch and a heavy dinner or vice versa.

Again, this is just what works for me, I know everyone has their own way that works for them, but I even FEEL slimmer in terms of my sides, belly fat, etc. and I feel more energized and healthier. Just trying to keep it up!

Q: I am really curious abut the MAC case. Would you mind doing a more indepth review.... like will it hold my 6 mac palettes? How heavy is it full/empty? -Whitney

A: Hi Whitney! It will hold all 6 possibly even more palettes (assuming they are stacked on top of each other), the well inside is big enough to hold about that many MAC palettes or even other stuff. For example I have my MAC palettes in there and I still manage to add a few brushes, some Q-tips, a mirror, etc in there. It's pretty heavy empty alone (which is a con to me), but it's pretty sturdy so I can't complain. Supposedly it's heat-resistant which means it's safe to leave in your car on a hot day. With my stuff it wasn't that much heavier than it was empty (at least it didn't feel that way), but it wasn't hard to lug around. It pretty much felt like it had the same weight with other makeup boxes I've had including the Sephora black case one with all my stuff in it. The good thing about THIS case is that it's not as bulky as normal makeup cases, it's slim, so it's easy to carry on your shoulder with the shoulder strap included and it's not bumping against your leg everytime you walk and fits in the tightest places like the floor on the backseat of your car. The two "boxes" on top swing out which makes it ideal to hold tiny things like eyeshadows, or smaller brushes, bottles, etc. so everything is nice and organized and not scattered.

Q: I love your hair color! What color is it? -Sara

A: Thanks Sara! I dyed it Revlon's Deep Burgundy awhile ago, CLICK HERE for a pic, but I think the color it is now is a mixture of the faded undertones of the deep burgundy along with my natural hair color because in person it's just a deep dark brown.

FOTD: Using "Flip" eyeshadow, Underplay l/s & 2N Lipglass

Here is a quick look I did using "Flip" eyeshadow, I also wanted to use MAC's "Underplay" lipstick that my mom bought me at CCO when I was in Washington (it's discontinued which sucks because it's such a pretty color!) But you can find it online or at CCO's. (Cosmetics Company Outlet) as well as the "2N" lipglass I bought. I also popped in some colored contacts for a different effect, I used Freshlook Color Blends in "Violet".

MAC Collection- Brunette, Blonde, & Redhead

I picked up a few things from this collection, and even though I am a brunette, I ended up buying from the other 'hair colors' instead! LOL. The lipsticks and lipglasses are really pretty, although I just ended up getting "Red Devil", "Strawberry Blonde" lipglasses and "Flip" eyeshadow. "Red Devil" is a bright coral-pinkish color with shimmer and "Strawberry Blonde" is a gorgeous medium rose pink with shimmer. I also picked up the #226 brush which is the baby of my #138 rosebud brush. This brush is PERFECT for contouring eyeshadow on the crease as it's small tapered tip shades those tiny areas perfectly. Here is the eye map diagram I made again just so you can see the various areas you can use this brush for...



And here it on the very right compared to some of the other blending brushes I have, as you can see it's quite unique!

We had a photographer take updated pictures of the staff at work (as they go in our email signature) since we hired so many people since the last time, and of course me and my best gals at work had to squeeze in something funny while the photog tested the lighting...

MAC Box...and more randomness!

I meant to blog a couple of days ago, but since I started hitting the gym (it's my New Year's resolution to be fit and healthy and get Hawaii ready for my vacay in August); it's been making me super exhausted. But I actually feel really good, i've been eating healthier than I was before, so I don't feel sluggish anymore, I feel more energized and "cleaner" inside; and I am just looking forward to keeping it up and just being fit again. After I decided to stop my feeble attempt at modeling, and being controlled in terms of what I can and cannot eat, I became careless and kept eating the wrong things. There's nothing wrong with eating what you want, just moderate it and exercise. My problem was that I wasn't really exercising and I was just eating anything and everything! I went from my heaviest which was about 130 to now a 118, and honestly I don't care if I am 125, as long as I am healthy and toned. I try to work out everyday except on weekends since the gym is next to my work, so I am trying to make it a constant habit. So far so good!

Anyway, here is the blue eye/fotd I did last weekend and meant to post up earlier before I got sidetracked! I had blue nails to match which was China Glaze's "Frostbite".

- MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC30
- Cargo OneBase concealer in #2

[Cheeks]
- MAC Blushcreme in "Uncommon"

[Eyes]
- MAC "Otherworldly" Paint Pot on lower half of the lid
- MAC e/s in "Moonlight" on lower half of the lid
- MAC e/s in "Cobalt" (PRO) on 1/4 of the lid
- Milani "Blue Ice" and MAC "Freshwater" on outer half of the lid
- Dark blue e/s in MAC "Sea & Sky" on outer half of the lid and outer-V
- MAC Fluidline in "Blacktrack"
- L'Oreal eyeshadow in "Voluminous"
- Urban Decay glide eyeliner in "Electric" on lower lash line

[Lips]
- MAC lipstick in "Snob" and "Pink Noveau"
- MAC lipglass in "Special Edition Viva Glam II"

And I LOVE the Beauty Blender Sponges! I know, I know, they are a bit pricey for SPONGES, but I can't live without them! They last forever for me, my liquid foundations don't sink in them so it's not going to "waste", and the unique shape allows me to cover large and small areas with ease. I ended up buying two additional ones, one for my makeup bag, and one for when I travel.



As you can see the one on the left is the sponge wet, hence it's larger...


Some of you asked to see the MAC Box I got for Xmas actually filled up with stuff, so when I slept over the BF's mom's house last weekend, here is what I packed to utilize the space! It actually fits A LOT!
