Review: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips

.

L to R: Frock Star, Bling It On, Wild Child, and Laced Up
Product: 4.5 out of 5
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Quality: 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5
Price: $8.99 each
Shade I am wearing in pics below is: "Bling It On"
Available at most drugstores

I went to Target last week and came across these Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips which claim to last up to 10 days, since I am challenged when it comes to putting on nailpolish on my right hand and have no patience for waiting for it to dry, I thought these would be perfect to try out. They are pretty new to the market, they aren't even on the Sally Hansen website yet and they were hard to find (not all Target stores had them or drugstores for that matter). But I think they should be rolling out to more places in due time within the next couple of months if not sooner.

Each box comes with 16 nail strips (extras in case you make a mistake) and of course different sizes so you can find ones that fit your nail bed, a cuticle pusher, detailed instructions, and a nail file. I recommend that you have warm hands or fingertips when you apply these so that when you smooth out the nail strip it sorts seals it onto your natural nail and helps it adhere.

PROS:
-I noticed they have remarkable staying power when used with a top coat. I used Seche Vite top coat to help seal and make it last longer and didn't experience any chipping so far and have had it for about 6 days now; and usually with regular polish I do on Day 2 or 3. Without a top coat it's more prone to peeling or getting etches quicker.
- They have a variety of cool designs and colors, from lace, zebra, high-impact glitter, neon, matte, shimmer, etc. to choose from.
- They are $8.99 each which is relatively cheaper than a manicure you get at a salon.
- Super easy to apply and remove, and very natural looking. It only took me 10 minutes or less to do both hands, and you can remove it with regular nail polish remover.
- Great if you are pressed for time and need to do a quick manicure, no need to wait for them to dry!

CONS:
- Not all of the nail strips will fit all nail beds, but it's not too noticeable, just gotta find the one that fits you the best.

Overall: I love, love, love these! I honestly wanna just get these from now on as oppose to regular nail polish because they are just so easy to do lol! I like that I don't have to wait for these to dry, and that they last a long time. They also come in many fun designs as well as more normal nail polish shades and finishes. I had people even say "I love your nailpolish color what brand/shade is it?" and they are shocked when I say they are nail polish strips, because they look that natural.

The shade "Bling It On" was hard to capture its true color, it's a really pretty medium bright rose pink in person, not as dark as it is in some of the pictures.

Used a different camera, but color is closer to the pic above, and is still as vibrant as Day 1:
Minimal chipping on index fingernail near cuticle, but still in tact for the most part

Those are similar to the Incoco nail strips. I love incoco! They can be found at Walgreens or you can buy them online. Walgreens sometimes have them on clearance and you get definitely rack up on them.

I saw these at Super Walmart yesterday and was tempted to get the one with the lace design. Glad to know that they do last up to 6 days, at least!

How big are your nailbeds?

Vanessa said...

@ Stephanie- They aren't that big, I compared my thumb nail to a dime because I thought they were that big haha but the dime was much bigger, but the nail strips might not cover the sides of your nail...

These look pretty good, we have something similar in the UK I think so I might try it out!

Ooh, it does look very natural! For the glittery ones it may be hard to justify since there's plenty of glittery nail polish out there, but the ones with complex patterns are a great idea. Thanks for sharing!

Can you use these if you have short nails?

Vanessa said...

@ Mandi- Yes you can definitely use them on short nails! As you can see some of my nails are pretty short, they are great for short and long nails.

WOW they're still pretty much still lookin fresh after the 6 day. i wore the "frock star" ones for new years eve and they almost didn't even make it to new years. an my sister told me i should of put on a top coat but it was already too late. an also i had a little trouble ripping of the tips sometimes i would rip off a lil too much, not a lot that it looked bad so yeah . i don't know maybe my nails were too too short but yeah, i still have on more box of strips. an i'm gonna try them out one more time and hopefully it works out this time.

sorry really long comment

i just bought some of these and heard they were horrible. i thought about using them with a top coat (since it's supposed to be real nail polish) and luckily i came across your post where that's exactly the solution.. i got the lace design and a sparkly blue! ;)

These are amazing! I did all my toe nails using only 3 strips!! Just cut as much as you need for each nail! Yay! More for later! :) I love these!!!

Mine peeled right off immediately even with a top coat. I followed directions exactly and pushed, squeezed, rolled the wooden stick over it. No matter what I did they would not stick. I'll take my $10 to the nail salon next time.

Vanessa said...

Hi Gina-which one did you get? I noticed the glitter ones like frock don't stick, their glitter is just too chunky it didn't stick for me either, but had no problems with the other styles.

I tried Cut It Out - cool black & white flower pattern. It looked great on the first night but then was getting stuck in my hair constantly, shampooing was a nightmare that chipped color at the cuticle like crazy, picked up fuzzies from anything...not worth the $10 in my opinion. Lasted less than 3 days before the chips were so bad I had to take it off. Maybe the patterns for a special occasion, but I wouldnt bother with the solid colors you can get more uses from a bottle that would be cheaper. And its not even like they are so quick to apply that that might make it a reason for buying...it took a while to clean the nails perfectly and apply precisely. I usually love Sally Hansen stuff and have used their strengthening products for many years, I expect better than this from their products.

Vanessa said...

@ Kristen- I tried the "Frock Star" and it was horrible, it was chunky and hard to put on. I haven't tried the one you did, but the pink one was fine especially for being the first time doing it/using it. Did you use a top coat as well?

These are amazing!! My friend and I have been using these just recently. I currently have the booty camp on and she has the check it out on. My friend has had hers on for 10 days and absolutely no chips, scratches, or anything. Looks like new!! For those who are having problems you could be not applying correctly or the nail bed isn't clean. You definitely need a top coat, then I cure mine under uv lamp. These are great!! No more nail polish for my friend and I. We will be stickin to these wonderful strips.

Thanks! Great post, after reading this I just had to run to the super wal mart (it was 11pm lol) and get me the lacey flowery one... they look great... I actually ended up cutting them in half since my nails are shorter... so now I get 2 uses in 1! well worth it IMO
