Product Review: Makeup Removers

.

Until now, I have always removed my makeup by simply washing my face and using makeup removing wipes such as the Neutrogena Facial Wipes or MAC wipes, and even though I still like using them when it comes to traveling or for a quick fix or pick me up, I really like how makeup removers thoroughly cleans your face or your eye makeup without leaving smudges or a little eyeliner or mascara left over.

I didn't like the Oil-Free Neutrogena makeup remover, as much as it says "oil-free", it's not, you can totally see the oil through the bottle and it left my face feeling all greasy. I am really glad I found these two, they work for me and I really don't see me trying anything else ever again!

I recently ordered Scinic Lip & Eye Makeup Remover from Sasa.com, it was only $8.20 so I figured id try it out, I admit I was skeptical at first because it had oils such as olive and macadamia, and I usually hate makeup removers with oil due to the greasy yucky feeling afterwards, but I wanted a makeup remover to try and the design of the bottle actually appealed to me.

I tried it for the first time a few nights ago and I LOVE IT! Even though it's oily at first, it's not OVERLY oily to where you have to wash your face right after (at least in my opinion), and when it dries, it just moisturizes your skin at the same time (think the oil cleansing method). The innovating pump is mess-free which makes it a breeze to take off your makeup; simply use a cotton ball or a cotton wipe and push down on the pump to release the liquid, and remove like normal.

I recently was using the Mandom Beauty Cleansing Express Sebum Makeup Remover which I also love because it seriously FEELS like water, but it can remove makeup like no other! No joke, there is NO OILY RESIDUE at all with the Mandom Makeup remover (Pink and Anne use and love this as well!) They have two or three different kinds I believe (I forgot what the others were), but I got the Sebum one for those with acne or oily skin, and I just got it to prevent any oily build up as I figured this one had no oils in it and help prevent acne. I got it from a Japanese store called "Ohayo", they also have a website Ohayousa.com, I will write about this store in an upcoming post, but they sell A LOT of Japanese products, however, it's A LOT pricier than Sasa.com, but unfortunately I don't think they sell this on Sasa.com (I checked and didn't find it), but you can pretty much find it I am sure in Japanese or Korean beauty stores, markets, etc. I got it for $10 but the website is selling it for $13.99.

So which one do I like better? I actually like to switch them around and use them intermittently. I like the Mandom one when it comes to cleaning up makeup mistakes or if I am starting over on a FOTD because it's like water, so it doesn't leave me with ANY oily residue- it's AMAZING. I also like to use it to clean up smudges of eyeliner left around my eyes after I get out of the shower. I like the Scinic one when it comes to hard-to-remove makeup like the Mehron Aqua Palettes, the MAC Longwear Lip Colors that are super hard to remove, or to painlessly remove false eyelashes. Makeup removal is quick and easy with BOTH of them.

Also, in case you are wondering what the quilted pads are that I used, it's the Swisspers Quilted Cotton Squares from Wal-Mart. I love them because they have more surface area to work with (rather than using 10 cotton balls in one sitting!), and also because it doesn't shed like cotton balls do, which makes it great for removing eye makeup and nail polish so the hairs don't get all over the place.

Removes everything! Eyes, face, lips!

I love using the quilted cotton pads too ! Like you said one just had to get the remover all over it all and place it on the eye. No tugging or stretching the ball to cover the whole eye.
Must try the Mandom remover ! Thanks for the reviews

Ooh I definitely need to try this out. I am pretty sure that on yummiebitez's blogspot, she mentioned you could get it from ohayousa.com but I don't know what it's like to order from there or what the price is

I use the makeup removing wipes, too--and was bothered by there always being a little smudge of eyeliner or mascara that wouldn't quite come off!

I tried the neutrogena oil-free remover, as well, and I HATE it! It does a really subpar job of what its supposed to do.

I'm going to have to order one of these removers--I ADORE Japanese cosmetics, when we were visiting in Tokyo I was buying all sorts of pretty Shiseido cosmetics at a nice discount due to them being a little cheaper (I think they have a drugstore line because that's what I bought, but either way its seriously nice makeup)& the exchange rate.

BTW, LOVE your blog, I've been reading for a while, but I don't think I've commented before. Thanks for all the amazing tips and reviews! <3

I've been using the Mandom cleanser since Anne/Pink mentioned them in their blogs, and I love using it! It works so much better than the makeup remover I was using before, and as much as I like the oil cleansing method, some nights I just want to get my makeup off and go to bed. The only thing I don't like is the pump - that first pump from the bottle can cover some serious distance! The green soft makeup remover looks interesting - thanks for the reviews!

Do you have to the shake the bottle? I have the target brand of this "oil free" make up remover and you can clearly see the oil and water difference!

I told you woman it is the shit!!!

Thank you for the shot of the ingredients label, you know I'd be Googling for it!

The dispenser for the Green Soft is really cool. I use straight up EVOO for the eye makeup in a squeeze bottle and never get just the right amount out.

Thanks for the info on the Swisspers as well. I HATE using cotton balls for anything. They are such a waste of product - and all the cotton fibers across your face.

I recently picked up 2 Mandom cleansing lotions, and they're great! I wish they came packed in the type of bottle as the Scinic one, though. Do you know if you can get those types of empty bottles anywhere?

thank you for the review. i really want to order the Mandom remover because i dont think i can find it in boston where i live. anyways, i saw your recommendation on the matte mousse foundation from maybelline, i was just wondering if it gave you a good coverage and does it cause you breakout? i got 2 for a price of 1 today at rite aid but still anxious to try. hihih....thank you for all the info you've shared. i greatly appreciate them

Thanks for the review! =)
I'm sooo going to Sasa straight after work today and get that GreenSoft remover just cause the bottle is absolutely brilliant. =P

Are either of them the "no wash off" kind? That's why I use the Neutrogena towelettes - I hate washing off this stuff; there's always some mascara left, and they I have to wash again!

I need to try these out! Thanks for the reviews.

Hey Nessa,

I also lovee the Mandom as well! But lately it's been making my eyelashes shed off when I use it to remove my eye make up/liner (the fluidline). So let me know if it does anything weird like that to you! But over all I like using it for my face :)

Hi,
I love to use DHC Deep Cleansing Oil a lot because it totally does the job. But Scinic Lip & Eye Makeup Remover seems pretty good too, and seems the price is whole lot cheaper. I am convinced, will give a try once I use up to the DHC one.

Olive oil works fine, cheap and doesn't sting.

Hi Vanessa,
I'm a new makeup fanatic and have been reading your blog religiously for the past 3 months and I absoloutly LOVE IT!. You have taught and inspired me so much. I love to try new products and I cant seem to get my hands on the Mandom express sebum. I checked out ohayousa and webichi and they want $35-$50 just for shipping. I live in Kona, hawaii and i know that standard shipping shouldn't charge that much. If there is ever a time when you have a couple extra bottles, PLEASE think of me and I will buy them from you.:) Thank you so much for being such an inspiration. I will definetely keep in touch..!
