Reader Question: How do you organize your mineral makeup samples?

.

I am having fun spending quality time with my bunny, I found out yesterday that it's actually a GIRL, sooooo that means I am changing the name (thank goodness! LOL), I haven't decided what to name it yet, im on the fence whether to name it a normal "human" name, or a cute pet name...so if you have any ideas on the name, let me know!

Q: Vanessa, how do you organize your mineral makeup samples? I have tons of them and want to know what's the best way to store and organize them...thanks!
_______________________________________________________________________________

A: I store all my mineral makeup samples, jars and baggies, upside down in a large sterilite plastic drawer. I store them upside down so that I can see the color of each one quickly and easily, this includes MAC Pigments. I don't worry too much about the product overflowing through the sifter stored upside down because luckily there's always enough product and not overflowing, and besides it's easy to sift it back in the jar...

I use a plastic tray I bought from Wal-Mart, I think it was meant to store pens or kitchen items, but I love it for brushes, pens, etc. You can use a BIGGER tray if you wish, I just store the pigments I use frequently in this tray so it's easy to find, and the trays are pretty deep.

I then organize all of them...

Placed them face down so I can see the colors...

I would opt for a cute pet name. Unless it's a human name from certain character. My favorite technique for naming a pet is using my fave candy/desert. A future pet of mine will be named Pocky or Peaches. lol feel free to use those if you like.

ohh the bunny is a girl!
for your bunny name suggestion, I'd say "squishy" hehe I think thats a cute pet name..that it makes you wanna squeeze your pet (which I dont recommend) haha

that's a lot of mmu samples, tons of pretty colors to play with =)

Oh Congrats on the Bunny!

You'll be surprised at how much personality those little buggers have! I've had mine for a year now and her name is Lucy. She was adopted from the animal shelter and needed a lot of serious medical procedures done on her. I took her because the shelter didn't have any money to treat her and the poor thing was suffering so much.

Today, she's a cute deceiving trouble maker and I'm so glad I took her in.

Be aware though, bunnies are pretty low maintenance however, they need SPECIALIZED CARE. If improperly cared for serious consequences can arise quick. They are pretty fragile beings and unfortunately probably one of the most misunderstood pets of all.

To help you in your quest to be a new bunny mommy, try visiting this forum *binkybunny.com* they are the most well-rounded pool of information for beginning bunny mommies and the forum is SUPER helpful!

Good luck on your little bundle of furry joy!

I think your bunny would sound cute with either a pet or human name. My two chihuahuas are named after name brands. Lol. My girl is named Bebe and my boy is named Gio, after the Armani cologne =) I had two hamsters and one was named Butterball and the other Hellraiser. I didn't name that one! But anyhow, one day I came home and Butterball was missing! We had mice in the cage with the hamsters and they always went missing too! So my sister and I were thinking that they snuck out some how! Well, we were looking and saw that Hellraiser was EATING Butterball! Butterball's head was MISSING! I think Hellraiser was eating all the other mice in there, too! Anyhow, Hellraiser died a few days later. Since then I have never bought anymore hamsters!

wow, that's a lot of samples. :) We have weird names for own pets. I named my two dogs "Tigre" and "Ninja". I also named Mom's dog "Yan tao." :)

Since you love makeup, I think it would be cute if you named your little bunny after one of your favorite eyeshadows, lipsticks, lip glosses or blushes. :-)

Awwww cute bunny. I'd probably name it Bun-Bun. :) I used to have a stuffed rabbit when I was little named that.

hi nessa, i used to have a bunny too! actually, i had two and named them after my friends who are a couple. hehehe..

as for the mmu samples, i used to transfer them in pots (when i got them in sample baggies) and then i organize them like you do. but lately, i've been too lazy to do "potsession" (yep, that's what i call it) so i keep my baggies in an album --> http://abubots.blogspot.com/2008/02/great-idea-to-store-my-mmu-baggie.html and i've realized it's easier for me to see and choose colors this way.

You should name her Karat! Both bunnies and girls love karats (just not necessarily the same kind!) :)

woah - that's A LOT of pigments!! *jealous stare*

what?! baby bunnies don't have little tee-tee's to tell if they're a boy or girl??

p.s. you get them from work?! LOL -- that's so filipino of you. :0P

(g)ezebel said...

LOL! you use two 'cuz it's softer? you must have a very sensitive butt. :0)

HEY YOU! I use the exact same method and exact same plastic storage as you do! But, all of my samples are on the bottom shelf... top shelf is lippies, middle shelf is misc. (eyelashes, glue, glitters, etc) crazy :o)

Anyways, in your picture close-up of the (mainly pure luxe) pigments that you use frequently, what are the names of the two next to fantasy which aren't from pureluxe? they look soo pretty! thanks!

Hey Nessa~

First of all, thanks for the comment on my blog. The monistat "primer" does work well!

As for your bunny, my dog is named Cherry. I always thought it was a cute name. :)

name your bunny "Cotton" or "Gizmo". I've always wanted to name Daisy Gizmo, but i didn't find out what gizmo was until after i named her. lol.

take lots and lots of pictures of her, when she's all grown, you'll miss her bunny days so much... i look at daisy's puppy pictures every week.. she used to be 3 lbs, and now she's 10 lbs!

Nessa, your bunny is adorable.

I'd name her Jessica Rabbit, after that movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" do you remember it? We're the same age, and so hopefully you know the movie I'm talking about.

And I'm trying out mineral makeup for the first time! I'm in happy land with my new mineral foundation, it's really fun and works great.

Take care!!

Hi Vanessa. :O) I want you to know that I think you are doing a great job. I love reading your blog! Thanks so much for all the information and tips and tricks.

I wanted to ask you 2 questions:
First, how do you go about getting those mineral samples?
Second, my eyes and your eyes are totally different. You have big beautiful eyelids that give you plenty of room to play with, and my eyelid practically disappears when I open my eye. Could you help me learn some tricks to working with tiny eyelids, or maybe point me in the direction of a good source for tips and tricks?? I would love to be able to use vivid beautiful colors but have always steered away from them becuase I've never thought I had the eyelid for it.

Thanks toots. :O)

Good thing your bunny is a girl. Boy buns pee a lot! And can be quite "humpy" if you know what I mean ^_-. She's the cutest lil' thing I've ever saw'd! Sooo tiny...

TheDaughterOfTyr said...

Wow I should try to organize my stash. Hehe.

You should name the baby-bunbun after your favourite eyeshadow. LOL.

Hi ... I've been reading your blogs and i think it is so great. But well ... just wanna ask how did you get to know your bunny is boy or girl ? Because i heard that we won't know they are boys or girls until they are at least 6 months of age.

I agree with Vanessa about storing the samples upside down in plastic drawer units so that you can read the names of the products & see the colors clearly if the covers are not clear. I also organize mine by shade- say green tones in one drawer, etc.
