Product Review- Camellia Rose Skin Soothing Primer

.

Product: 5 out of 5
Packaging: 5 out of 5
Overall: 5 out of 5

Like Aileen from Shades of U, I find this to also be my holy grail of primers. I have tried many face primers before, from Smashbox Photo Finish, Pure Luxe Eraser, Laura Geller Spackle, Laura Mercier, the list goes on and on...I really like Pure Luxe Eraser as well, but the Camellia Rose Primer is wonderful! Nothing remotely compares to it that I have tried so far.

The one thing I refuse to pay A LOT for, is a primer. It's not necessary to shell out $35+ for something you can't see, and goes under your makeup. Most of the time, it causes me to have a pimple or two because of all the ingredients in it.

I know some people are sensitive to any type of silicone or certain oils, and as much as I have sensitive skin, my face actually loves and tolerates this stuff! I have always wanted to try Jen's Primer (owner of Camellia-Rose.com), she had a baby and closed up shop for awhile, but she recently re-opened business, and I was one of the many people first in line to nab this awesome primer!

What I LOVE about it:
First of all, I absolutely love the smell! I can't quite describe it, but it reminds me of a teabag and it's just heaven on my face. Mine came in a jar, but from what I hear, it now comes in a pump. I know some prefer the pump to the jar simply for sanitary reasons, but I can go either way, doesn't really matter to me because it's awesome! The best part? I have used it for over 2 weeks now, and have NOT received any kind of a bad reaction, not a pimple, not a rash, no redness, nada. I can only speak for myself, but for you ladies who have super sensitive skin, she has a new formula/new version, V 2.0, in which squalane and red raspberry is replaced with Camellia Oil (really good for your skin) and Rice Bran Oil!

Jen is also wonderful, great customer service, and I love how she is able to manage and really remain one on one with all her customers! Juggling her own business and kids is hard work, yet this woman is incredible!

The ingredients in the ORIGINAL formula is: Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Squalane, Watermelon Seed Oil, Red Raspberry Oil

What I HATE about it: Absolutely NOTHING! I need to stock up on this stuff!

Overall: Let's just say I am putting in another order NOW.....:)

***EDIT***
in response to comments, YES you can use this primer for ALL kinds of foundation (I used it under my Maybelline Liquid Foundation, Mineral Foundation, etc.), the consistency is a gel, and it seriously is my favorite at the moment!

Hi Vanessa!

I have a quick questionto a problem I'm having. What is your solution to smuding eyeliner? My eyeliner on my bottom lashes always smudge & I've used pencil, liquid & gel but they all smudge badly.

Aww, I was hoping to try the primer, but I just recently bought MAC's Prep&Prime. Maybe next time when I run out of primer I'll try this!

Once I've used up my Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel, I'll have to look into this. Thanks!

ROFL at alienman..!! wait, unless she's serious...?? nah, she doesn't actually use monistat on her face, right? alienman, you're joking, right? i think i read this on ABB somewhere and remember thinking, "isn't that for 'down there' for like, yeast infections?!" honest? can it really be used as a primer? *might go to walgreen's later* heehee

hi vanessa, my skin always looks flakey after I've applied (moisturiser as base) foundation and i find it so annoying >< I've got dry skin but i moisturiser and exfoliate as I should but as soon as I put liquid foundation on, it goes all crusty. should I use primer as a base then? is that where I'm going wrong? please help =(

Hi Nessa,

I heard a lot of great reviews for this primer BUT my only concern is.. can you use this as a primer for liquid foundation? Or is this primer meant only for minerals?

lol, I usually base what I buy from your reviews!

What sort of consistency is this primer? I noticed there are several oils in it and was wondering if it's similar to my Rose Salve which I LOVE,I just bought 2 more jars even though I have 3 open. Thanks!

She's serious but it's not the same that treats yeast infections. It's anti-chaffing gel - a totally different product by monistat.

OOOH, I'm almost finished my primer so I've been keeping my eye out for a new one. I agree with you, Vanessa, that you shouldn't shell out a ton of money for a primer since it won't be seen anyway. Is this primer a silicone or water-based one? Is it available online or at drugstores?

Heya, love your blog! Would you suggest using your regular moisturizer underneath this primer?

I knew you'd love it! I remember when I first tried it during the summer time I recommended it to you! Unfortunately, my skin hates red raspberry seed oil and now that she has the V 2.0 I've ordered a sample of it. :D Hoping I don't react to it! :D

Vanessa, your review is so convincing, I'm going to put in an order to try the sampe this week! :)

A product from a brand called Camelia-Rose sounds so lady-like that I hope it will help me BE more lady-like! LOL

Monistat's chafing-relief powder-gel is my HG primer! I love the fact that it's so inexpensive and contains only the essential ingredients compared to the more expensive brands. http://review-monistat-face-primer.uncensoredguides.com/

you know i usually use smashbox's but it really is too expensive...and it's not like it's the best thing ever...i have monistat too, but don't really use it...i think i'm going to order v2.0 and check this puppy out, thanks for the review sis!

Yay for Jen's primer! Don't worry, I'm still using the one in the jar, and as long as we use clean hands, I don't think we need to worry about bacteria getting into it. I've had mine since July I think and I'm only halfway done with it. This is so economical!Camellia-Rose is also a lot better than Smashbox and even Pureluxe IMO. Pureluxe is okay but the size is just waaaay to small for $16; what a ripoff. Laura Geller's spackle makes me oily, shiny and my face so sticky. Like you I haven't used a primer as great as Jen's. I just ordered her version 2.0 for sensitive skin, and she also has a non-silicone one coming up. :)

Hey Vanessa!

I'm just wondering, in your opinion, would this primer be safe for super oily and acne prone skin? I see it has "oils" in it, like that watermelon seed oil, and I'm wondering if you feel that it's okay to use for crazy skin like mine.

Thanks so much! (sorry for constantly asking so many questions ;.;)

oooh i want to try this when I run out of smashbox primer. Is the consistency similar to smashbox photofinish or is it more similar to the sephora primer?

Vanessa said...

Hi Lynn! It's the exact same consistency as the Smashbox Primer! I love it!

Does this cover up those little bumps left by whiteheads?
